The Fuertevida Parkinson No Limits association is proud to present Proyecto O.L.A.S. (Ocio, Liderazgo, Accesibilidad y Salud Digital). This innovative initiative was created to respond to the challenges faced by the youth of Fuerteventura (juventud majorera): social-labor inclusion and the urgent need to mitigate technology abuse, isolation, and sedentary lifestyles.
Aimed specifically at 120 young people living in Fuerteventura, aged between 14 and 35, the project supports them in a journey of transformation and growth, turning young people into agents of change and well-being through peer education (Peer Education).
The Two Pillars in the Majorero Territory
The project is divided into two main pillars designed to enhance the territory and its community:
- Sports-Inclusive Axis in nature: Specialization in volunteering for sports and adapted activities, recovery of traditional Canarian games, and the protection of the natural environment itself.
- Digital Well-being Axis: A “Digital Detox” program to promote healthy leisure alternatives in Canarian nature.
Training Activities on the Island
The project unfolds through practical modules deeply rooted in our territory:
- Volunteering in Adapted Surf: An intensive 15-hour neuro-assistance course that will take place at the blue flag beach of Corralejo. Young people will learn water safety protocols and how to manage different difficulties related to motor pathologies.
- Eco-Surf and Coastline Protection: Direct Beach Cleanup interventions on the beaches of Fuerteventura’s coastline to protect the fragile marine ecosystem of the island.
- Juegos de Arena y Raíces (Sand and Roots Games): Meetings on the beach to recover traditional Canarian games (such as bola canaria and pelotamano), connecting young people to the island’s intangible cultural heritage.
- Igualdad en la Ola & Digital Detox (Equality on the Wave & Digital Detox): Seminars in Fuerteventura’s high schools (IES) dedicated to gender equality, cyberbullying prevention, and the constructive use of social networks.
- Mente en Equilibrio (Mind in Balance): Theoretical and practical psychomotor workshops aimed at self-awareness and stress management to support future volunteers.
Our Role Models for Inclusion
The technical team boasts certified professionals with many years of personal and professional experience:
- Francesca De Bartolomeis: Coordination and continuous support by the professional psychomotor therapist (and daughter of a person with Parkinson’s), ensuring the emotional well-being and stress management of the participants.
- Dr. Nicola Modugno: Internationally renowned neurologist specializing in Parkinson’s. He leads the general supervision of the training, guaranteeing the clinical rigor and safety of all protocols.
- Edoardo de Angelis: Personal trainer and surf instructor specialized in adapted surf with years of experience in the field.
- Simone Pellegrini: Professional photographer, surfer, and digital impact creator.
Start Date: Registrations are now open! The first meeting will take place in September (the exact date will be defined based on the needs of the registered participants).
