Dr. Nicola Modugno is a leading neurologist with over 25 years of experience in clinical practice and research dedicated to Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders. His medical approach harmonizes advanced neuroscientific research with an empathetic, patient-centered focus aimed at improving quality of life.

Clinical Leadership

Dr. Modugno serves as the Head of the Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center at the renowned IRCCS Neuromed Institute (Pozzilli, Italy).

  • 2005 – Present: Senior Neurologist (Aiuto) with leading clinical and organizational responsibilities.

  • 1999 – 2005: Staff Neurologist at IRCCS Neuromed, focusing on complex neurological conditions.

Educated at top European medical institutions, his research credentials include:

  • Ph.D. in Neurophysiopathology of Human Movement – Sapienza University of Rome (2002).

  • Specialization in Neurology (Summa Cum Laude, 70/70) – Sapienza University of Rome (1998).

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) (Summa Cum Laude, 110/110) – Sapienza University of Rome (1994). His research on upper limb sequential movement in Parkinson’s disease was published in the journal Movement Disorders.

  • International Fellowships: Advanced research conducted alongside world-renowned experts, including Prof. J.C. Rothwell at the Human Movement and Balance Unit (HMBU), Queen Square, London, and Prof. Alfredo Berardelli at Sapienza University.

Social Commitment & International Collaboration

Dr. Modugno is the President of ParkinZone APS, a non-profit association dedicated to providing holistic support to Parkinson’s patients. Embracing an international perspective on patient care, he actively collaborates as a specialist neurologist with the FuerteVida Parkinson No Limits association in Fuerteventura (Canary Islands), extending his medical expertise, innovative therapeutic approach, and support to the international Parkinson’s community.

His passion for the sea and nature, combined with his experience in rehabilitation activities for people with Parkinson’s disease conducted in nature, makes him a neurologist who knows how to develop his profession by empathizing with people and supporting them in activities that stimulate their own health potential.

Creator of Sail4Parkinson, a recreational and rehabilitation activity for people with Parkinson’s and many other projects in Italy, he begins his collaboration with Parkinson No Limits on the occasion of a European project started here in Fuerteventura that has two pioneering and innovative activities in the approach to Parkinson’s: surfing (created by our association, Fuerte es la Vida Parkinson No Limits) and Sail (created by Nicola Modugno and the ParkinZone association).
